StrandLock
Level Crossing System
Locked-in stability for the most demanding rail crossings. Post-tensioned steel strand technology delivers exceptional structural integrity.
Locked-in stability for the most demanding rail crossings. Post-tensioned steel strand technology delivers exceptional structural integrity.
StrandLock builds on the familiar Rosehill Baseplate installation process, with one key enhancement. Integrated channels within the panels allow a continuous, greased and sheathed steel strand to be threaded through the crossing once installation is complete.
The strand is anchored at both ends and tensioned using a hydraulic jack, locking the entire crossing assembly firmly into place. This mechanical locking action significantly increases stability.
The tensioned strand links every panel, improving load transfer and reducing relative movement between components. The result is a locked, unified crossing structure that resists panel migration and maintains alignment over time.
StrandLock accommodates crossing angles and layouts that would otherwise prevent the use of a standard baseplate solution. Particularly suited to higher crossing angles and complex geometries.
By locking panels together, joint wear and long-term movement are minimised, helping maintain ride quality and geometry throughout the service life of the crossing.
Installers benefit from a process that closely mirrors existing Baseplate installations, with minimal additional training required. The strand tensioning operation uses a hydraulic jack, available from Rosehill Rail.
With no moulded metalwork within the panels, StrandLock crossings can be fully granulated at end of life — supporting a circular economy and reducing waste to landfill.
Critical for locations where maintaining precise alignment is essential. The post-tensioning system ensures the crossing maintains its geometry under repeated dynamic loading. Because the panels are held under compression, they are also less susceptible to gapping caused by thermal expansion and contraction in varying weather conditions.
| Property | Specification |

| Reinforcement | Post-Tensioned Steel Strand |
| Strand Type | Greased & Sheathed for Corrosion Protection |
| Tensioning Method | Hydraulic Jack |
| System Compatibility | All Rosehill Gauge Panels, Field Panels & Edge Beams |
| Recommended Applications | High Crossing Angles, Dynamic Loading, Complex Geometry |
Engineered for main line railway crossings where structural integrity under high-frequency, heavy axle loads is essential. The unified structure resists the dynamic forces that cause conventional crossings to degrade.
Ideal for urban tramway systems where aesthetics, ride quality, and minimal maintenance disruption are priorities. The locked panel system maintains smooth running surfaces across the service life.
Designed to withstand combined rail and heavy road vehicle loading. The post-tensioned system distributes loads across the entire crossing structure, preventing localised stress damage.
